Embracing Autumn with Colour and Comfort
As the days grow shorter and the evenings draw in, autumn always feels like a fresh start. At BRWSH, I (Claire) notice this is the time of year when so many of us want to make our homes feel warmer, cosier, and more inviting.
After a summer of bright light and outdoor living, autumn brings with it the softer glow of golden leaves, crisp mornings, and the urge to curl up with a blanket indoors. For me, it’s the season that naturally inspires decorating – whether that’s introducing deeper tones in a living room, refreshing a hallway, or adding pattern and texture through wallpaper.
Paint Shades for Autumn
This season is all about warmth and depth. Here are a few favourites we’ve been recommending in store:
-
Tikkurila V384 Cranberry – a rich, warm red that adds instant cosiness to a dining room or hallway.
-
Johnstone’s Voice of Colour Urban Bronze – grounding and sophisticated, perfect for a snug or living room.
-
Sanderson Wheat – a soft neutral with a golden undertone that works beautifully alongside natural wood finishes.
These shades echo the colours we see outside – russet leaves, earthy soil, and the golden glow of harvest.
Wallpapers with Cosy Texture
Sometimes, pattern and texture are what really bring a room to life. For autumn, these wallpapers create a stylish but comforting backdrop:
-
Morris & Co Mallow – elegant florals in muted tones, perfect for a feature wall in a sitting room.
-
Sanderson Juniper Ash – subtle and calming, ideal for bedrooms where you want a restful feel.
-
Zoffany Smoke – moody and atmospheric, just right for creating a cosy snug or home office.
Wallpaper adds depth, tactility, and a sense of character – perfect when you’re making a space feel warm and welcoming.
My Tip for Autumn Projects
It doesn’t always have to be a full redecoration. Sometimes it’s as simple as painting woodwork in a warmer shade, adding a bold runner on the stairs, or papering just one wall for impact.
If you’re unsure where to start, bring me a piece of fabric, a favourite cushion, or even a photo of your space. With our spectrometer colour-matching service, I can help you find the perfect paint shade to tie everything together. I also love sitting down with customers for our free colour and wallpaper consultations – it’s one of the most rewarding parts of what we do at BRWSH.
Looking Ahead
Autumn is also the time to get ahead on exterior projects before winter sets in. Our Tikkurila masonry paints are designed to withstand the West Wales weather, keeping homes looking fresh and protected through the colder months.
